Kakum National Park is a home for nature lovers. Trained guides are on hand to explain the economic, cultural, and medicinal values of plants and farming. Fifteen kilometers from Cape Coast is the serene, golden beach of Brenu Akyinim, a 3-kilometer stretch of sandy beachwhich provides an excellent site for swimming, sun bathing, and bird watching.


Counted in the park are seven primate species including the Diana monkey, more than 500 species of butterflies and about 250 species of birds including five horn bill species, the Frazer-eagle owl, and the African grey and Senegal parrots.The most notable endangered species of fauna in the park are Diana monkey, giant bongo antelope, yellow-backed duiker and African elephant.


Kakum National Park is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to dusk; admission fees may change. The park is clearly posted along Jukwa Road roughly 20 miles north of Cape Coast and Elmina.

It is best to arrive at 8 a.m. to see as much wildlife as possible.
