The school was established in 1993. After the 1987 educational reform programme, it became mandatory and necessary to establish community-based Senior Secondary Schools throughout the country. The school was carved out of an existing Junior Secondary School-Anglican J S S – the school is located in the Amanten community in the Atebubu-Amanten District of the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. The School started with a very low population, both students and staff. The School in collaboration with the Traditional Council embarked on an enrolment drive in the year 2000 at a time when the student population stood at 35. In an effort to make this drive successful, the Traditional Council decided to pay the school fees of the students for three years.
Status: Presently, the school is day with hostel facilities. The girls are accommodated on campus while the boys are outside the campus.
Our Vision
The vision of Amanten Senior High School, as an educational institution, is to achieve academic, social, and moral excellence in our effort to educate the child.
Our Mission
Our mission is therefore to develop the child to the fullest of his/her potential. Students are taken through academic development through effective teaching and learning, monitoring, evaluation, and appraisal of both the students and the staff.
To keep students physically sound and to ease academic tension, the mission of the school is to carry out sports and games at all levels to keep students healthy and active. This is necessary because a healthy mind lives in a healthy body (P E Philosophy and Greek adage – men sana incopre sano) and all work without play makes Jack a dull boy.
The mission is also aimed at unearthing the potentials of students who have talents in sports and games, so as to develop them to the fullest benefit of the students themselves, the school, and the nation as a whole.
Moral development is carried out in this institution during morning services and in Guidance and Counseling programmes.
School Crest and Motto
The school has a crest and the motto written on it is “CREATIVITY AND DEVELOPMENT”
The traditional stool and sword in the crest represent the Paramountcy of the Amanten Traditional Council and the role they play in the school’s development. The book and the pen represent the academic works through which the child would develop.
The motto has two main words and each is very significant. The child is educated in all spheres of life: mental, physical, spiritual, and moral- to use available resources and to create some more if what he/she has is not enough to cater to his/her needs.
Development of the child is total as stated earlier and each of their contributions would make them self-developed and the nation as a whole.
