The first batch of seventy (70) students, all boys, was enrolled on 16th October 1971. It became extremely necessary to admit girls due to a great demand for girls education. The first batch of girls was twenty(20) and was admitted in October 1972 and were housed in a nearby hostel. Initial idea was that the school would serve the immediate community but the first batch came from all over southern Ghana. Later, the case was strongly made for a change in name to reflect the Traditional Area, Nifa, one of three Political Divisions in Akwapeman. This, plus the fact that Benkum and Adonten already had schools named after them made the argument win the day. The change in name was accordingly effected in 1973 and Nifa Senior High was born.
